It began, if you must know, like a whisper.

It may have actually been a whisper, I don't exactly recall. That's one pseudo-pretentious way of noting that three years ago, we thought of something.

When we suggested (out loud) the creation of an event that could regularly re-invent itself, half the people who heard what we were talking about thought we were nuts. Perhaps, like they say in the movies, they were right. Some thought two minutes was too short. Others thought it was too long. Some have come to speak each year expressly because the question scared the hell out of them.

"Now," we figured, "things are really getting interesting."

So, you might be asking... what the hell does this mean?

Well... what the lay person might refer to as "lightning in a bottle" or "collective genius" can be funny, sexy, poignant, or scary, and we believe that half the fun is in the unpredictability of the moment. So much so that we fly by all twenty seats of our collective pants once a year for two solid hours. Be ready. Shh...someone's speaking.

[ Special thanks to: SXSW, DFWBlogs/Houston Bloggers, Marcus Rice, Michael Griffith, Sarah Bruner, Mark Couvillion, Rodney Hull, the hordes of people who kindly ask to help each year, each one of our speakers, past and present (and future for that matter) - you're all rock stars, even those of you who aren't rock stars for a living. ]
